Focused on a body of work that was centered on the formation of a traumatic image of witnessing parental intercourse.
The image of physical and instinctive body movements witnessed at an early age was deeply imprinted in my mind.
The buried memory was revived and expressed again in the context of the images I was struggling to remember.
In order to break away from this obsession with the body, I embarked on introspection about myself which would serve as the basis of my work.
This was followed by the work 'Self-loathing and Human Fragility' which became the foundation of my current work.
What I mean by self-loathing is an instinctive defensive posture of self-protection against one's own fundamental aspects that are not expressed or recognized but rather neglected by oneself.
I believe these are the most fundamental parts.
From this title of self-loathing, I took a diagrammatic form in my image making process.
There will be many points where one can feel the sense of inferiority towards one's essence.
And then, I eventually brought out my parents' intertwined bodies again.
Intercourse is carried out by two physical bodies intertwined with each other. Instinctive and embarrassing yet natural, we do this discreetly.
What about a public restroom in this context? It is a place of relief for natural desires but yet our activities in there are very secretive.
Such a similar enumeration of self-loathing was then continued in the digital environment.
The proliferation of digital media has taken its place as the primary medium for humans and has extended our
senses.
Data is transported, recorded, and reconfigured in the digital (virtual) space and reproduced as avatars twice.
Data floats in the virtual space and is recontigured as one entity, containing even the most intimate of personal matters.
Now, digital media is taking its place as a kind of business card and I was able to better identify the sense of self-loathing in that space.
The 'digital revolution' of the Internet world, known as the Internet world, is an open space that provides freedom of expression and rights based on remoteness, networking, expansion, and functionality, as well as benefits such as sense of efficacy, convenience, efficiency, productivity, and entertainment in all aspects of life and society.
On the other hand, due to anonymity, non-face-to-face, and rapid information diffusion, there are side effects such as confusion between the cyber space and the real
space and depersonalization.
Anonymity, as an essential element of freedom of expression in the virtual space. has brought
revolutionary progress and change to human development.
However, the damage caused by anonymity such as immediate and emotional reactions, consumptive and irresponsible behavior, aggressive and immoral behavior etc. has led to defamation of character, invasion of personal privacy, group hysteria, and apathy of the group
I think these behaviors are a way of escape from the helplessness of conscious humans.
But there is no paradise where one can run away. In the end, it is a proof of human helplessness.
