Color pencil drawing series

I capture and print out scenes from media programs that touch my heart, print them out, put Sunji(a type of traditional Korean paper) over them, trace and color.

During this work, I was able to move away from reality for a while, experiencing an emotional escape from my exhausting daily life.

And drawing the scene is an act of reflecting on the emotion.

Criteria for choosing a scene

The most important factor in choosing a scene to draw is how well the composition and text complement each other.

I chose scenes with beautiful colors and adapted the images based on the subtitles.

Using colored pencils, I reproduce the image on Sunji, creating a cozy and warm fairytale-like atmosphere.

The reason
I trace over the printout

Through media imagery, people can experience emotional escape while watching scenes of relaxed daily lives.  We empathize with the media and feel vicarious satisfaction.

Envy, escape from reality... I chose the transcription method to find faint traces that I see
through the paper, transfering onto the Sunji, in order to reflect on my own emotions.

This work process, which is a discipline, plays a role in purifying emotions with a self-satisfying attitude that could not be solved in reality.

Artist profile

CHOO YEON A

I focus on drawing everyday scenes that are not provocative, as well as things that existed in the past but are gradually disappearing.

I mainly paint the spaces that are disappearing from our lives as they are. Rather than strongly conveying messages through my artwork, I pursue focusing on the subject I draw.

In a society that pursues new and sophisticated things, I want to show that old (and perhaps considered outdated) things also have their own atmosphere and beauty.
